10 week old Lloyd
February 13th, 2009 · No Comments
Lloyd is now 10 weeks old. It blows my mind thinking about how much he has changed even in just the past two weeks. He is much more willing to hang out by himself on the floor or in his crib. He has a floor-pad that dangles toys over him that he is willing to chill-out on. He bats at the toys every once in a while, and I think he’s getting into it.
He is days away from being able to roll over. He gets SO CLOSE I’m sure it will happen the first time he tries the next time I leave him with his grandparents or with Courtney (my brother in-law Matt’s girlfriend Erica’s younger sister and my new afternoon helper on Tuesday and Fridays).
He is also incredibly close to being able to hold his head up and sit in his bumpo seat. He can hold his head up just fine when sitting in my lap, but as soon as I put him down to sit on his own he looks at me like “What the heck? I’m not ready for this” and rests his head on his chest.
He has, however, regressed when it comes to night-time sleeping. For three days in a row he would not sleep for more than two hours at a time, and was not having the bassinet anymore. We have weaned him back onto the bassinet, but he has been waking up two or three times between 9pm and 4am.
Cyst update: the ultrasound proved it was just a cyst. It is completely encapsulated (a floating water balloon) and completely fluid. The next step is to just continue to monitor it to make sure it doesn’t grow, but even that is just for cosmetic reasons. We’ll have the pediatrician look at it again in April and we’re meeting with the Mott’s Plastic Surgeon to discuss draining it in June. However, as he continues to grow, I’m sure this little bump (less than a centimeter in diameter) will appear even less noticeable.

Kitten Update

Some of you may be wondering how our cats, Montoya and Ticongeroga, are holding up now that we have Lloyd. The answer is… not great. They like Lloyd just fine (Montoya sniffs his head and they engage in staring contests), but they miss being the babies.
We try to give them lots of cuddle time, but they only want to cuddle when we are cuddling the baby. Montoya is begging for attention by climbing the TV and then jumping up to the top of the book shelf just inches from the ceiling. Then she will look down on us and meow.
Ticonderoga peed in Lloyd’s bouncey seat yesterday, which for inexplicable reasons is not washable. Greg had to take the whole seat into the tub and give it a bath. Now the electronic components that we had yet to try (vibrating seat and iPod speakers) will probably never work.
Tiki had a mat on the side of her head, and both of them should be getting their nails cut much more frequently than our current capabilities. We try to tell them that soon Lloyd will not need to be *babied* so much and we will be more attentive, and also that someday Lloyd will be obsessed with petting them, but they are skeptical.

Lloyd’s First Play Date!

Lloyd and I had two of the Mommies from our birth class over with their babies.
Here is Manya and her son David, Lloyd and me, and Nani and her daughter Sequoia.
Manya is a doctor, and is a fount of information about health and developmental milestones. Nani is a true Earth Mother and is completely centered and at peace with her baby. I like them both very much and find that they bring me balance.
