After a week long hiatus, Lloyd has resumed rolling. On April 6th he rolled over from his back to belly in the other direction (clockwise)! Now he can roll both ways. I think he heard the doctor saying that he’d be allowed to sleep on his belly once he mastered rolling (around 6 months old), and he’s trying to get it all down.
All those genius baby books or milestone charts say that babies first roll from their bellies to their backs. Lloyd hasn’t done that yet, proving again that those books and charts are to be taken with a grain of salt.
This is one of the biggest lessons of parenting we’ve discovered so far: as soon as we under-estimate Lloyd (thinking he’s forgotten how to roll, thinking he’ll never sleep in his bassinet again), he proves us wrong.
Another parenting fact: about 8% of your day will be spent doing snaps. I never would have guessed what a huge part snaps would play in my mothering-life.

Maybe you haven’t heard, but Greg and I have been exploring a dead-animal smell in the laundry room for the better part of a month. It would be very pungent one day, and then gone for a week, and then come back for several days, etc…
We cleaned-out all the cabinets and mopped the floors extra-well… still occasionally stinky. Finally last night Greg crawled under the deck, looking to encounter animals – dead or alive! But no such *luck*. So today Greg moved the cabinets and cut into the walls, thinking our house had some super-smelly insulation of dead-mice. Nothing in the walls except the original siding of our house! Yes, previous owners didn’t even remove the siding while building our laundry room add-on.
Greg was able to localize the smell to under the washing machine. He moved it and discovered a hole that goes strait to the Earth under our deck, in a special locked-off under-our-deck tomb. So Greg repaired the floor, cleaned up the room, and we haven’t smelled the stink since.
Good thing we never bothered trying to keep that room warm, as one can only imagine the wasted energy of heating a room with a hole in the floor to the outside world.

Lloyd is now 4 months old, and is just shy of 20 lbs. He’s still in the 97 – 100% for all his measurements (head circumference, weight, and length). He is completely proportional and gorgeous.

Our house was picked in the Dexter Village Tree Planting Lottery! Who knew there was such a thing? Greg and I got to pick a breed of tree from a very random list of about 7 varieties, and the village is going to come and plant a baby tree on our property!
Apparently we were entered because members of the village voted that our property was one that would benefit from a tree. Bizarre!
We picked a Ginko tree. We’re going to run outside and collect the seeds… or eat the leaves… or lick the bark or whatever… and have terrific memories!! You know, because of the ginko.
