Lloyd at 2 Years

March 7th, 2011 · 3 Comments

There have been so many wonderful changes in Lloyd in the past six months, I wish I would have kept updating this blog.  However, I did jot down some particularly noteworthy quirks on little scraps of paper – saving them for when I got a chance to document them properly.  I certainly never want to forget his first hilarious joke (told around Thanksgiving 2010, when he was just shy of his second birthday):

Lloyd: “Cows live in a zoo!”

Greg and me: “What?”

Lloyd: “HA HA HA HA! No – cows live in FARMS!”

Repeat 5,000 times.

I also don’t want to forget this exchange:

Lloyd: “Shark says ‘Donut’”

Me: Sharks like to eat donuts?

Lloyd: “Shark says, “donut’”

It took me a moment to realize where he got this. Whenever I have his little toy sharks attack him I always sing the “Jaws” theme: “Duhhh-nun!  Duuhhh-nun!  Duh-nun-duh-nun-duh-nun” etc.    Lloyd thought I’ve been saying “Donut” this whole time and I’m in no mood to correct him : )

I never want to forget how he exclaims, “Bubbles O’ Fun!” whenever he’s done being soaped in the bath.

Or how he says, “Okay, okay, okay I don’t do that” when he doesn’t want to do whatever I’m asking of him.

Right now Lloyd is so polite and smart and nice. “Thank you,” “Please,” and “I love you” come easily and frequently.   He can recognize all of his letters and has been able to (the capital letters, at least) since he turned 18 months old.   Now he knows all of the sounds each letter makes and can even tell you what letter starts almost any word you test him with, as long as you say it slow enough : )

He recognizes all of the numbers up to 15 (sometimes up to 20), but doesn’t count consecutively.  If I ask him to count anything above 5 he’ll launch into his code: “1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 8!”  However, if I ask him, “What comes after 1?” he will say “2” and can usually follow that pattern all the way up to 15.

Lloyd is completely obsessed with dinosaurs.  He can recognize several species and is always impressed by dinosaurs with BIG TEETH!  It’s been a fast education for Greg and I to learn all we can about the varieties of dinosaurs we have in our toy collection.  So if you want to learn about a diplodocus, dimetrodon, allosaurus, or parasaurolophus you know who to ask.    Lloyd has three particular dinosaurs (a T.Rex, Raptor, and Brachiosaurus) that he carries with him pretty much however he goes, including the bath tub and his crib.  They are his sleeping buddies  : )

He has a little Southern accent that is less pronounced now than it was a month or two ago.  Instead of “hat” it was “ha-yat,”  for “there” it was “they-yer,” for “bath” it was “ba-yath” etc…  Syllables abounded!   He also has a habit of using “boo boo” as a fill-in when he’s trying to compose a sentence or find a word.  “I go boo boo to the barn to boo boo play with boo boo dinosaurs!”   It’s hard not to mimic him, as his language is very catchy!

He’s still incredibly tall for his age, although he’s a lot leaner now that we run around and climb all of the time.  His little elbows, knees, and feet are starting to get dry and calloused, meaning the end of his fatty soft baby skin.   Everyday I’m amazed to see how much he’s aged, seemingly over night!  It goes by so fast.

Well, I for one, am EXTREMELY happy to read this update. I know it takes time and energy that are in short supply to write these things, but know that we ALL appreciate it and love to read about our favorite little man! xoxo

I loved reading this, even though I knew first hand almost all of it. It’s still sweet to see in words and appreciate that special guy all over again. He brings such joy to our lives, and you’re right – he is a very nice (and smart!) boy. You are great parents. xo

That was so much fun! Imagine him reading this when he is 22!
