Lloyd at 8 Months

August 13th, 2009 · 3 Comments

Click Read More for all the details on what Lloyd’s up to in his 8th month.   Lots of pictures!

Let’s keep it real: Lloyd has had a rough start to his 8th month.

First, he got the cold he always gets before he cuts teeth.

Here he is saying “Dude, I don’t feel so good”:

sick

Then he started feeling a lot better!  He is army-crawling like a champion now.  How this works is he drags himself all about the room with his arms, and sort of steers with his feet and knees.  He keeps his stomach on the ground, although every once in a while he gets up on all fours.  I’m not really sure if he’s going to progress to real crawling anytime soon, as he has found this mode of transportation pretty successful.  I’m trying to make a movie of this so stay tuned.

Then of course, he had surgery.  He’s still slightly swollen and there’s just a bit of a yellowish-greenish bruise.   He was on prescription pain medication for one day, but now is getting by with Tylenol and Motrin, because of course he is cutting his 7th and 8th tooth (one on top and one on bottom).

So he’s been darn cranky recently, and who can blame him?  He’s sleeping pretty poorly for the past week, getting up maybe 3 or 4 times at night and of course refusing to spend any amount of time in his crib.   However, the other night he slept in his crib for about 3 hours, and yesterday he seemed in great spirits, so maybe we’re creeping out of this fussy-sicky-recovery-teething phase.

His eyes are settling into a brownish color.  They definitely still show shades of blue, green, and gold, but I think we’d say they were brown if we were getting him a driver’s license.  His hair is getting thicker and longer and it too is sort of an ambiguous color still.  It’s mostly blonde, but also a bit auburn.   Needless to say, I think he’s pretty.

None of his traumas have affected his growth.  He’s well over 27 lbs now, and fitting comfortably into 24 month clothes.   He was having a bit of trouble eating his solid foods when he was in the worst of his teething pain, but that’s slowly improving.  Normally he eats about 3 or 4 solid food meals, and still nurses plenty.  He takes two naps during the day, each about an hour long.

Lloyd’s babbling quite a bit and working on different consonants.  Now we definitely hear a “Dada” every once in a while, and that is very nice!  He also says “Blah blah blah,” which is hilarious and we think we hear “Hi” and “book”  🙂  And in a true communication break-through, he waves!

He is definitely more in-tune with his emotions.   He cries when Greg leaves for work most days, and that really pulls on the heart-strings.  He also dives into your arms for big hugs and passionate kisses, which is pretty much the best thing ever.

Here he is after breakfast, brushing his teeth and doing his stretches:

Well our doctor said we just need to wipe them with a rag, but I asked my dentist and they said that it was best to use a toothbrush right away. Lloyd tends to nurse himself to sleep, which is not great for his teeth because the milk has some sugars in it. So we are pretty diligent about brushing his teeth a bunch during the days.
